Kate Thompson is an editorial and commercial photographer based in Richmond, Virginia. Whether it’s a personal project or an assignment, she is a big picture thinker and brings empathy and a quiet thoughtfulness to projects large and small. She uses her camera as a way to connect with others, ask questions, process the world around her, and document the full scope of the human experience - the light and the shadows. Her work explores the themes of family, design, public health, and identity.

Kate wandered a circuitous path to photography. She earned a Bachelor’s in Spanish from the University of Virginia followed by a Master’s in Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology from Columbia University, ultimately using her linguistic education as a springboard back into exploring the visual world through photography.

Kate is also a Richmond, Virginia headshot photographer and the co-founder of design studio Palindrome Creative Co. Her work has included collaborations with The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal NPR, Google, Virginia Public Media, Garden & Gun, Hyatt, Southern Living, House Beautiful, Compass Real Estate, Imbibe Magazine, Forbes, Destination Hotels, Apartment Therapy, Travel + Leisure - and others.
